About Us
Friends of Table Mountain advocates for the sustainable use of Table Mountain National Park. Our goal is a thriving park that benefits locals and tourists by protecting nature, creating jobs and uplifting communities.
Our Mission
Friends of Table Mountain (FOTM) is a public, mountain users’ organisation.
Our goal is to encourage the best possible management of Table Mountain National Park (TMNP), considering the natural environment, safe recreational use and ecotourism opportunities.
To achieve our mission, we focus on three key areas:
-
Nature conservation
-
Trail maintenance
-
Safety and Security

FOTM is registered as an NPO and a PBO.

Leanne Mitchel
Deputy Chair
Leanne Mitchell is well-known in the trail running community, especially in the south peninsula. She is one of the main organisers of the Muizenberg TrailDawgs (since 2018) and is very involved in the deep south running community. She is passionate about Cape Town and events that bring tourists and Cape Town’s incredible running and hiking community together. She volunteers as an Aid Station Captain for Ultra-trail Cape Town (since 2019) and has recently joined the PufFer organising team, the oldest trail race in Cape Town.
She is passionate about Table Mountain and joined FoTM to assist in lobbying for the good governance of this iconic natural attraction. She is particularly interested in improving mountain safety, trail and infrastructure maintenance, and protecting the mountain’s unique biodiversity. In her own words Leanne says “I would love TMNP to be a place that women, tourists – everyone – can enjoy without fear. I believe TMNP is the heart and soul of our beautiful city and needs our protection.”

Willem Boshoff
Treasurer
Willem Boshoff is an active member of the Newlands Forest Conservation Group and is an important activist in the fight against bark-stripping and alien vegetation in this critical forest. Willem is also a keen climber, an experienced hiker and a founding member and regular contributor to the Hiking SA social media pages.

Shafeeqah Gordon
Secretary
A well-known figure in Cape Town’s outdoor community, she blends her love for the mountains with a strong sense of community. She is an integral part of Tuesday Trails—the largest trail running crew in Cape Town—and made history as the group’s first female leader. She spends countless hours exploring the park’s trails, often participating in races that celebrate the beauty and challenges of the terrain. More than just an athlete, she actively works to connect people with nature, fostering an inclusive and responsible outdoor culture.
Her work extends beyond the trails—whether guiding others through the mountains, educating people on conservation efforts, or bringing outdoor enthusiasts together, she is deeply committed to building a community that values and protects the natural world. Through her leadership, passion, and dedication, Shaf continues to inspire others to engage with and care for Table Mountain.
